Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 30, 2026

The Bass Fishing Hall of Fame (“BFHOF,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a nonprofit organization that honors the people who have shaped the sport of bass fishing. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through bassfishinghof.com (the “Site”), how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It also applies to information you send us by email or mail in connection with the Site, such as a nomination.

By using the Site, you agree to this Privacy Policy and to our Terms of Use.

Summary

  • We do not use analytics, advertising, or social media tracking on the Site, and we do not set cookies for visitors. Some pages include YouTube videos, and YouTube may set its own cookies (see “Cookies and Similar Technologies”).
  • We collect personal information mainly when you submit a nomination or contact us.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
  • You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your information at any time.

Information You Give Us

Nominations. When you nominate someone for the Hall of Fame or one of our awards, we collect:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, and mailing address.
  • The nominee’s name, contact details, and whether the nominee is living or deceased.
  • The nominee’s accomplishments, areas of contribution, written narratives, photographs, and any supporting documents you upload.
  • The names, phone numbers, and email addresses of the references you list.

Correspondence. If you email, call, or write to us, we keep your message and the contact details you include so we can respond.

Email newsletter. If you subscribe to our email newsletter, we collect your email address and any other details the sign-up form asks for. Our newsletter is sent through Mailchimp (see “How We Share Information” below).

Information About Other People

A nomination usually includes information about people other than the person submitting it: the nominee and the references. If you submit information about someone else, you confirm that you have a reasonable basis to share it with us for the purpose of the nomination, and that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge. We may contact the references you list, and we may contact the nominee or the nominee’s family as part of our review.

If you believe someone has given us information about you and you would like it corrected or removed, contact us using the details at the end of this policy.

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, the server that hosts the Site automatically records basic technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, the page you requested, the referring page, and the date and time of the request. These server logs are kept by our hosting provider for security, troubleshooting, and preventing abuse. We do not use them to build profiles of individual visitors.

We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics service, advertising network, or tracking pixel on the Site.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

BFHOF does not place cookies in the browsers of visitors. Specifically:

  • No tracking or advertising cookies. We do not use cookies to track you across the Site or across other websites.
  • Administrator cookies only. WordPress, the software that runs the Site, sets cookies only when an authorized staff member signs in to manage the Site. Visitors never see the sign-in page and never receive these cookies.
  • Nomination form drafts. While you fill out the nomination form, your answers are saved in your own browser’s local storage so you do not lose your work if the page reloads. This draft stays on your device, is never sent to us until you press submit, and is cleared once your nomination is submitted. You can also clear it at any time through your browser settings.
  • Fonts. The Site loads some of its typefaces from Google Fonts. When it does, your browser connects to Google’s servers, and Google receives your IP address and browser information. Google states that it does not use Google Fonts requests to set cookies or to build advertising profiles. See Google’s Privacy Policy for details.
  • Embedded videos. Some pages, such as induction ceremony videos and acceptance speeches, include videos hosted on YouTube, a Google service. When a page with a YouTube video loads, your browser connects to YouTube, and YouTube may set cookies or use similar technologies to remember your preferences, count views, and, under its own policies, for advertising. Where we can, we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which does not set cookies until you play the video. These cookies come from YouTube, not from BFHOF, and are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. You can block third-party cookies in your browser settings.
  • Social media links. Links to our Facebook, Instagram, and other social media pages are ordinary links. Nothing from those services loads on the Site unless you click through to them, at which point their own privacy policies apply.

Because we do not track visitors or sell or share personal information, BFHOF has nothing for a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. YouTube’s response to those signals is governed by its own policies. If our practices change, we will update this policy before any tracking is added.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Receive, review, and evaluate nominations, including in later induction cycles where a nomination is carried forward.
  • Contact nominators, nominees, their families, and references about a nomination.
  • Prepare induction ceremonies, honoree biographies, and related announcements.
  • Respond to your questions and requests.
  • Send our newsletter and event updates to people who have subscribed.
  • Maintain the historical records of the Hall of Fame.
  • Keep the Site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and fix technical problems.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

Inductees and Honorees

Celebrating the people who shaped bass fishing is the core of our mission. When someone is inducted into the Hall of Fame or receives one of our awards, we publish their name, photographs, a biography, and a description of their accomplishments on the Site, at induction events, in news releases, in our newsletter, on social media, and in exhibits. We do not publish the private contact details of nominees, nominators, or references.

A nomination that is not selected is not made public. If you are an inductee, honoree, or a family member and would like information about the inductee corrected, contact us.

How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share it only as follows:

  • Board and selection committee. Members of the BFHOF Board of Directors and any selection committee review nominations. They are required to use nomination information only for that purpose.
  • Service providers. We use a small number of companies to run the Site and our operations, and they process information on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. They include our website hosting provider (HostGator), Google (Google Sheets and Google Drive, used to keep nomination records), and Mailchimp (used to send our newsletter).
  • Event partners. We may share an honoree’s name and the details needed to plan an induction ceremony with the venue or partner hosting that event, such as Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium.
  • Legal reasons. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or that it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of BFHOF, our visitors, or others.
  • Organizational changes. If BFHOF merges with or transfers its operations to another nonprofit organization, the records of the Hall of Fame, including nomination records, may be transferred to that organization, which will be bound by this policy for information collected under it.

How Long We Keep Information

  • Nominations are kept for as long as they are being considered, including in future induction cycles where our nomination rules allow a nomination to carry forward, and then as part of the historical records of the Hall of Fame. If you would like a nomination you submitted withdrawn and deleted, contact us.
  • Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to respond and for our ordinary records.
  • Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Server logs are kept by our hosting provider according to its own retention schedule, typically for a limited number of days.

How We Protect Information

The Site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Nominations are stored in a restricted area of the Site that only authorized staff can open, and uploaded files are not publicly linked. Access to nomination records is limited to the people who need it to review them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send us sensitive information we have not asked for, such as Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or medical records.

Your Choices and Rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us to:

  • Tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete your information, subject to records we must keep by law or as part of the historical record of an induction that has already taken place.
  • Withdraw a nomination you submitted.

To unsubscribe from our newsletter, click the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any newsletter email.

To make any other request, contact us using the details below. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we will not discriminate against you for making one.

Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Visitors Outside the United States

BFHOF is based in the United States, and the Site is hosted in the United States. If you use the Site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

Links to Other Websites

The Site links to websites we do not operate, including Wonders of Wildlife and our social media pages. This policy does not apply to those websites, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review the privacy policy of any website you visit.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. If we make a significant change to how we use personal information, such as adding analytics or tracking, we will post a notice on the Site before the change takes effect.
